ENGR 14: Statics

My final assignment in this course was to design and build a balsa wood truss bridge. It had to be able to safely hold a certain weight, but also couldn't be overdesigned (i.e. it had to collapse before it exceeded a maximum weight).

This is the finished truss bridge ready for testing.

Here is a picture of the bridge in the testing setup. Bottles of sand were placed into the bucket until the bridge collapsed.

The exciting part about this project was seeing our analysis come to life. We had designed our bridge to fail at a certain weight, and, surely enough, it failed exactly when we expected it to.
