Our next door neighbors had a wedding, and we had a birds-eye view from up on our roof. It was such a beautiful time of evening -- we saw the wedding from above. We were not the only ones -- other children from the neighborhood were peering from their windows as well.

Weddings are very public here -- almost always taped, so it is not awkward to to take photos -- the ceremony we watched involved the bride coming out of her parental home, and getting into the "Bride's Car" which takes her to the reception hall.

An interesting feature of weddings in Jordan is that the "signing of the marriage contract" actually happens at engagements -- and the wedding ceremony is only the public celebration of the wedding. So a broken engagement leads to a woman's technical marital status as being "divorced" even if she's never spent a day or night living with her husband.
