The first design project was to build a tower. But not just any tower... there was a 4-meter by 4m box on the floor with a 1m by 1m box in the center.  We had to build the tower inside the 1m box without stepping inside the 4m box!  We had a limited amount of materials, which had to be used both for the tower and the tools to build the tower, and a time limit of just a few minutes.  We were in randomly-assigned teams of 4, and I was blessed to have an amazing team that worked together super well.  We ended up using my design idea for the tower, which consisted of interlocking panels going up.  We desgined effecting grabbing tools to move the tower pieces, and perfected our teamwork to be able to build the tower efficiently.  We did not have the tallest tower, but the combination of our effective designs and great teamwork earned us a perfect score on the project!  Please see the page about Design Project 1 for pictures!  And if you are curious about the actual rules of the challenge, here they are: ME101_Fall_2010_Tower_Challenge_r05.docx
