In this class we learned how different mechanical systems work. We had two main projects that we completed in small groups: the crawler and the mechanical bunny.

The goal of the crawler project was to make a light-weight bot out of legos that climbed a pole very quickly, could stop in the middle of the pole without falling, and knock off an object from the top of the pole. We tried many different wheel and lego combinations, and finally found a very simple solution that was incredibly fast and light.

In the bunny project we had to design a mechanical bunny that climbed a ramp with the same gait as a rabbit. It also had to have two types of movement that were not associated with walking/hopping. Our bunny went through many iterations, testing different four-bar linkages, sliders, and cams. The final design used a static leg in the front and a giant cam-foot in the back to make the bunny move forward with a hopping motion.
